Our Approach

Health is a State of Body. Wellness is a State of Being.

Wellness is about more than not being sick. It's about more than trendy, unproven commercial consumer items and treatments promoted by social media influencers and even other healthcare professionals. It's more than a number on a scale...

It's about balance between mind, body, and spirit.

At Freestone Family Medicine & Wellness, we believe health and wellness are deeply connected, but they aren't quite the same thing.

Health is an important foundation. It's reflected in the state of your body, your physical function, and the absence or management of disease. But wellness extends beyond what can be measured in a lab or recorded in a medical chart.

It's having the strength to do the things you enjoy, the energy to keep up with the demands of everyday life, the mental clarity to navigate challenges, and the confidence that you're investing in your future.

It's being able to keep up with your kids, enjoy the activities you love (especially fishing), maintain your independence as you age, and wake up with the energy to win the day.

We believe good medicine should do more than help you get through today and simply provide a longer life. It should enable you to live your life to its fullest capacity.

This is why we created Freestone Family Medicine and Wellness.

How We Define Wellness

Wellness isn't a destination, a number on a lab report, or a one-size-fits-all prescription. It's an ongoing investment in your health, your capabilities, and your quality of life.

It means understanding your health today while taking intentional steps to protect and improve it for the future.

For some people, that means addressing high blood pressure, diabetes, or excess weight. For others, it means improving strength, building endurance, sleeping better, managing stress, or simply having more energy to enjoy life.

Your starting point doesn't define your potential. You don't have to be an athlete, have perfect health, or already live a healthy lifestyle to pursue wellness.

Our lifestyle based approach recognizes that all aspects of health are connected. Physical health influences mental and spiritual well-being. Metabolic health affects energy and performance. Sleep, nutrition, movement, and relationships all contribute to how we feel and function.

True wellness considers the whole person, not just an individual symptom, diagnosis, or lab value.

What Wellness Looks Like in Practice

At Freestone, we focus on several interconnected areas of health that influence how you feel today and how you age tomorrow. Collectively, often called Lifestyle Medicine. We'll go through some of these components below.

1. Metabolic Health

Your metabolic health plays an important role in your energy, cardiovascular health, longevity, and overall quality of life.

We focus on identifying and addressing risk factors such as insulin resistance, obesity, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, and diabetes.

Our goal isn't simply to improve numbers on a lab report. It's to help you understand what those numbers mean and develop a realistic plan to improve your long-term health.

2. Physical Fitness & Strength

Your body was designed to move. Motion is lotion. Strength, endurance, mobility, and physical capacity are essential components of lifelong health.

We believe maintaining muscle, improving cardiovascular fitness, and staying physically active are among the most valuable investments you can make in your health.

Whether you're just beginning an exercise routine or looking to maintain your performance as you age, fitness should be part of the conversation in primary care.

3. Nutrition and Healthy Habits

What you eat, how you sleep, and the habits you practice every day have a profound influence on your health.

We emphasize practical, sustainable changes rather than restrictive diets, quick fixes, excessive medication use, or unrealistic expectations.

Our approach is centered on helping you build habits that fit your life and support your long-term goals.

4. Mental Well-Being and Resilience

Wellness isn't exclusively physical.

Stress, sleep, emotional well-being, relationships, and mental health all influence how we feel and function.

Supporting your health means understanding the challenges you face, recognizing when additional support is needed, and helping you develop the tools to navigate life's demands.

5. Prevention and Healthy Aging

The best time to invest in your future health is before a problem develops. Unfortunately many don't realize this until it's too late. Many of the leading chronic illnesses and causes of death in the United States are preventable.

Preventive care, appropriate screening, early identification of risk factors, and thoughtful management of chronic conditions help protect your health over time.

We want to help you maintain your strength, independence, and quality of life for as long as possible.

Medicine That Looks at the Bigger Picture

Traditional medicine often focuses on identifying disease and treating it once it develops. That work is essential, and we believe everyone deserves access to excellent medical care.

But we also believe there is an opportunity to do more.

What if your primary care physician asked not only what was wrong, but what you wanted to be able to do better?

What if your appointments included conversations about your strength, fitness, nutrition, sleep, and long-term health goals alongside your blood pressure, cholesterol, and medications?

What if healthcare helped you become more capable of living the life you want, rather than simply managing the problems that get in the way?

That's the kind of medicine we believe in. This is why we do what we do.

At Freestone, we bring the foundation of comprehensive family medicine together with a proactive, lifestyle-focused approach to health.

We use evidence-based medicine, thoughtful evaluation, and individualized treatment plans. When medications or other medical interventions are appropriate, we use them. But we also recognize that prescriptions alone cannot replace the importance of daily habits and personal investment in health. And often, these lifestyle choices have a much larger impact.

We don't believe in shortcuts or one-size-fits-all solutions. We believe in real medicine that addresses the whole person.

Wellness is a Partnership

Your health is personal, and your goals are unique.

Maybe you want to lose weight and improve your metabolic health. Maybe you're tired of feeling tired. Maybe you want to get stronger, improve your endurance, manage (or even reverse) a chronic condition, or take a more proactive approach to aging.

Wherever you're starting, we're here to help you understand your health, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a realistic plan to move forward.

We bring the medical knowledge and guidance. You bring your goals, your experiences, and your willingness to invest in your health.

Together, we work toward something bigger than simply not being sick.

A healthier, stronger, more capable you.

Let's Build a Healthier Future

Your health deserves more than an occasional checkup. It deserves thoughtful attention, a proactive approach, and a physician who sees the bigger picture.

At Freestone Family Medicine & Wellness, we're here to help you feel better, function better, and stay healthier for the long run.

Strong Bodies. Clear Minds. Real Medicine.
